Chocolate fat bombs are an easy recipe to keep your macros in check or get acquainted with keto -- plus, no dairy or nuts!
Chocolate fat bombs are a rich and sweet way to kickstart your keto lifestyle (or get back on track if you fell off the keto wagon)! These bad boys only take four ingredients and about 15 minutes to prep, so you basically have to stop what you’re doing and try them. ;)
I wish I had these chocolate fat bombs the first few times I fell off the keto train. Every time I re-adjust to low-carb living, I crave sweets like crazy. Fat bombs are the perfect solution: Not only do they help keep you satisfied, they can also satisfy those nagging sugar cravings.
You can already find zillions of recipes for fat bombs -- but these chocolate fat bombs are different. Why? While plenty of recipes contain cream cheese or nut butter (or both, as we’ve done before), this one uses coconut-based ingredients for a totally dairy-free, nut-free experience. If you have allergies, follow an elimination diet, or just want less inflammatory fats, these chocolate fat bombs are for you!
Chocolate fat bombs: An awesome source of dairy-free fats
There have been times on keto when I went way too heavy on dairy and got terrible cystic acne and brain fog as a result. I cut almost all dairy for a few months (save for grass-fed butter in my Bulletproof Coffee), and my brain and skin cleared up dramatically. I have since re-introduced hard cheeses and little bits of heavy cream into my eating plan, but snacks like chocolate fat bombs are still a superior source of fat in my eyes.
These fat bombs use two main sources of fat: Coconut oil and coconut butter. Coconut oil is an amazing source of plant-based saturated fat, and one of our favorite all-around fat sources for cooking. Coconut butter is simply coconut meat that has been ground and blended into a more buttery consistency. I never liked coconut much, but coconut butter tastes divine -- plus, it keeps these chocolate fat bombs more solid at room temperature.
If you truly hate coconut, you have a few options with these chocolate fat bombs. First, use refined coconut oil instead of virgin coconut oil to cut down on the strong flavor. Second, swap the coconut butter with cacao butter -- you’ll still get pretty wholesome fats, plus a major chocolatey flavor that plays well with the cocoa powder already included in the recipe. (Just make sure you get food-grade cacao butter, not the kind meant for rubbing on your skin!)
Did I mention chocolate fat bombs are kid-friendly? I told my four-year-old that these were chocolate, and he gobbled them up without question. Add more sweetener to make them more appealing, but ours were pretty sweet as-is.
Try these chocolate fat bombs now, and get back on keto already! :)
